From the Greek words cryo: cold, bios: life, and logos: science. (Sputtek) Cryobiology is the study of any living organism at any tepmperature that is below zero degrees celsius. Some topics dealing with cryobiology are: cold hardiness and sensitivity in nature, freeze-drying, cryosurgery, frostbite, and cryopreservation. (Fahy) Also doctors and scientists use the information from cryobiology studies to freeze red blood cells, bone marrow, sperm, eggs and embryos, corneas, and skin for medical uses. (Gregory) Over the years, scientists from all over have found out that doing these types of things would benefit the people of our world. Many people today have joined a club called the Society of Cryobiology which promotes research in low temperature biology, to understand cryobiology, and to use this information to improve the lives of all people.
